Cytus II is a fun music rhythm game featuring a very diverse catalog of musical genres, and the second game in the Cytus series.
The core gameplay is identical to that found in the game’s immensely popular predecessor, Cytus, which means we must keep track of a line that continuously moves up and down the screen, tapping each note as soon as the line is on-top of them. New to Cytus II, however, is a third difficulty level for each song, a new type of note that has to be flicked, a cleaner level design that makes it easier to keep track of all the notes, and a tempo change that sometimes alters the speed at which the line moves up and down in the middle of a song.
New songs are unlocked by playing and winning using any of the game’s characters, each of which comes with unique songs and genres. Whenever we play a track belonging to a character, that character’s story progresses a bit too. The story is not important for the enjoyment of the game, however, so if you don’t want to read, you can simply skip the story parts and play the game purely for its challenging gameplay.
Cytus II monetizes through an inexpensive $1.99 upfront premium price that gives us access to more than 190 songs, with additional song packs and DLC characters sold via iAPs ranging from $4.99 to $34.99. Overall, Cytus II is a great upgrade from the first game and should please any fan of music rhythm games.
